I Downfall of Gaia sono un gruppo che non è mai riuscito a uscire dallo stato di band-cult, sia per scelta, sia probabilmente per non essere mai riuscito ad avere quella facilità d’ ascolto che tantissimi gruppi a cui si affibbia l’etichetta “post-qualcosa” riescono sempre ad includere nel proprio repertorio. Non si tratta di un male, anzi, per entrare nel mondo della band tedesca bisogna immergersi completamente e farsi sbattere tra gli scogli del crust più pesante e le dolci onde degli ambienti rarefatti e riverberati.

How’s going the tour?

The tour is going great, has been amazing! We did France, we did Spain, we did Portugal, we did Switzerland yesterday, and yeah everything is going really well. This is our first time ever playing in Italy, so we’re really excited to see what it’s gonna happen. The tour will last one month, we’re doing 29 shows and we have a free day tomorrow.

I’ve seen a great growth between the Oathbreaker EP and Rheia, how did your musical backgrounds influenced you?

It’s an hard question, I think in the ep we were super young, we were 18 years old. Oathbreaker exists from 9 years now, it’s normal that there is a certain growth, we’re not listening to the same music anymore as we did before. The most important thing is that we kind of knew how we wanted Oathbreaker to sound, but it took a lot of time to figure out how to make all the separate elements in a one whole. I knew for example that there was a way I could sing normally, not only scream. It was really hard how to figure out how normal singing blends with really fast blast beats, but in this record it was kind of like a search towards where everything combines. So on this record I think for the first time ever we succeded making that sound like we wanted it to sound. For example recording with Jack (Shirley) in San Francisco really complemented what we wanted. Before we recorded we wanted everything to be perfect, all the details had to be there. We didn’t want to sound like a machine or a robot but as a band. He pushed us to feel and to make that record sound like an organic thing, no click track, no nothing, and that’s what we needed, to make Oathbreaker sounds like Oathbreaker. He pushed us towards through something that we played and not something that someone else could have played.

Come sta andando il tour?

Il tour sta andando benissimo, è stato incredibile! Siamo stati in Francia, in Spagna, in Portogallo, ieri la Svizzera e sì, tutto sta andando molto bene. Questa è la nostra prima volta in Italia, quindi siamo davvero eccitati di vedere cosa accadrà. Il tour durerà un mese, le date sono 29 e avremo finalmente un giorno libero domani!

C’è una grande crescita tra l’ EP “Oathbreaker” e Rheia, come vi hanno influenzati i vostri background musicali?

E’ una domanda difficile, penso che nell’ ep eravamo molto giovani, avevamo 18 anni. Gli Oathbreaker esistono da 9 anni, è normale che sia presente una determinata crescita: non ascoltiamo più la stessa musica rispetto a prima. La cosa più importante è che sapevamo come il progetto Oathbreaker dovesse suonare, ma c’è voluto un po’ di tempo per capire e renderci conto come unire tutti gli elementi. Per esempio sapevo che ci fosse un modo in cui il cantato pulito si unisse a blast beats piuttosto veloci, ma in questo disco c’è stata più che altro una ricerca verso l’unione del tutto. Penso che su questo lavoro sia la prima volta in cui abbiamo avuto successo nell’ avere il sound che desideravamo veramente. Per esempio, registrare con Jack (Shirley) a San Francisco ha davvero aiutato in ciò. Prima di registrare volevamo che tutto fosse perfetto, con tutti i dettagli al loro posto. Non volevamo suonare come un robot ma come una band. Ci ha spinto a sentire e a fare questo disco come un qualcosa di prettamente organico, senza metronomi, senza nulla. Ed è esattamente quello di cui avevamo bisogno, di far suonare gli Oathbreaker come gli Othbreaker. Ci ha spinto verso un punto in cui abbiamo registrato quello che solo noi suoniamo, e non qualcosa che chiunque possa suonare.

BATHSHEBA: pronto il debutto

Il quartetto doom/sludge belga dei Bathsheba (formato da membri di Death Penalty e Sardonis) ha infine rivelato i dettagli del loro esordio discografico.

Il loro primo album si chiamerà Servus ed uscirà il 24 febbraio per Svart Records.

Sarà John Garcia il secondo headliner della nuova edizione del Desertfest Berlin, con un set che spazierà attraverso tutta la sua carriera.

THEBUCKLE: copertina, tracklist e primo singolo

Gli Stoner Hard Rockers italiani THEBUCKLE svelano copertina, tracklist e primo singolo dal nuovo album “Labbrador”.
I Thebuckle sono un duo rock fondato nel 2014 da Andrea (chitarra e voce) e Maxim (batteria), un'esplosiva miscela di hard rock, stoner, post-punk e hardcore.
“Labbrador” è un disco che piacerà a tutti i fan di MUDHONEY, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE e THE STOOGES.

CULT OF LUNA: pronto il DVD Years in a Day

I Cult of Luna hanno appena annunciato l'imminente uscita di Years in a Day, cofanetto celebrativo e testimonianza dell'attività live della band.

Il cofanetto conterrà un DVD con un concerto di due ore tenuto dalla band a Parigi, due CD live con le loro esibizioni alle edizioni 2013 e 2016 del Roadburn Festival e le registrazioni in alta fedeltà della succitata performance parigina. In più, in edizione limitata a soli 7000 copie, il cofanetto conterrà anche un vinile in dieci pollici.

Il preorder inizierà il 20 gennaio mentre la data d'uscita è fissata per il 21 aprile.

ELBRUS: il debutto su Kozmik Artifactz

Prosegue l'esplorazione della terra australiana da parte della Kozmik Artifactz: dopo gli ottimi Child, l'etichetta tedesca pubblica infatti il debutto omonimo degli Elbrus, quartetto di Melbourne dedito ad un ottimo doom/blues dalle forti tinte psichedeliche. 

Il disco verrà stampato su CD ed in vinile (disponibile in varie colorazioni). Artwork, tracklist e streaming dell'album qui sotto.

CHURCH OF THE COSMIC SKULL: Is Satan Real? (Review)

HEAVY PROGRESSIVE ROCK

Non so quanti di voi abbiano ascoltato l'album di esordio dei Mammothwing, ottimo lavoro destinato però purtroppo a rimanere unico in quanto il trio inglese si è sciolto quasi immediatamente dopo averlo fatto uscire (e, aggiungo, visto il livello qualitativo generale attualmente presente nel mondo dello stoner/doom, ci sarebbe da sperare che più band optino per scelte del genere) . Fortunatamente la storia non finisce qui percè la voce del loro cantante Bill Fisher è presto tornata a farci compagnia con il debutto di questo suo altro progetto, i Church of the Cosmic Skull. Prodotto anche questo dall'ottima Bilocation Records, la band ha un'organico di ben sette componenti e si presenta come testimone di questa "chiesa del teschio cosmico" (sul loro sito trovate anche i precetti), un po' sulla falsa riga dell'immaginario di band come gli Ya Ho Wha 13 o i Ramases.

LUCIFER'S FALL: Secondo album in uscita il 12 Dicembre

La band Australiana Lucifer's Fall è pronta a dare alla luce il proprio secondo album dal titolo “II: Cursed & Damned”.

La data di uscita è il 12 Dicembre (manca pochissimo) per l'etichetta Nine Records. La band si è formata nel 2013, nel 2014 hanno pubblicato il loro album di debutto che è stato ripubblicato nel 2015 da Hammerheart Records.

DEAD WITCHES: svelati dettagli dell'album d'esordio "Ouija"

La band occult/doom Dead Witches ha svelato nuovi dettagli relativi all'uscita del loro album di debutto "Ouija" che verrà pubblicato nei primi mesi del 2017 per Heavy Psych Sounds.

La band formata da Mark Greening (ex-Electric Wizard, Ramesses e With The Dead) e la cantante Virginia Monti (Psychedelic Witchcraft) darà alla luce l'album esattamente il 10 Febbraio e sarà disponibile in vinile nero, LTD vinile viola, CD e digitale. Le prevendite partiranno nel mese di Gennaio.
