I The Well hanno annunciato le date del loro prossimo tour europeo, che toccherà l'Italia per tre appuntamenti.

THE WELL: Death and Consolation (Review)

STONER/DOOM

La notte prende il sopravvento sulle sue creature, il silenzio cala assieme alle nebbie che abbracciano il paesaggio. Il canto di una civetta anticipa la sventura, la morte aleggia sul cemento come un rapace affamato. Non vi è luce oltre la finestra, solo il buio inconsolabile delle lacrime che si espande come un eco giù per la strada. Sabbah ha inizio. I suoni si aprono nell’aria come fosse un brano da meditazione ritualistica, per poi deflagrare in grassi riff stoner/doom dal forte retrogusto blues. Death & Consolation ha inizio.

THE WELL: nuovo album e singolo

Ritornano finalmente gli americani The Well, che tanto abbiamo apprezzato su queste pagine nel 2016, decretando all'unanimità Pagan Science album dell'anno. I nostri, a distanza di tre anni ritornano con la notizia di un nuovo lavoro (in uscita il 26 Aprile su RidingEasy Records) dal titolo Death and Consolation, anticipato dal primo, interessante singolo, Raven, che potete ascoltare in esclusiva su Kerrang cliccando qui. Di lato la copertina del disco, in basso la tracklist. Non ci resta che attendere aprile a questo punto. 

THE WELL: tornano in Italia

Sembrano aver apprezzato le lande europee i The Well che, non contenti del loro tour estivo, torneranno nel vecchio continente per un altro tour in autunno.

Per quanto ancora in via di definizione, sembra che quest'estate i The Well saranno finalmente pronti a tenere le loro prime date italiane.

DESERTFEST BERLIN: cinque nuovi nomi per l'edizione 2017

Nuove band per l'edizione 2017 dell'ormai tradizionale Desertfest Berlin, che si terrà dal 28 al 30 aprile presso l'Astra Kulturhaus di Berlino. Sono stati aggiunti al bill:

- Tuber

- The Well (i nostri beniamini)

Mancano ancora parecchi nomi per il cartellone definitivo, ma al momento è sicuramente notevole.

THE WELL: Pagan Science (Review)

STONER/DOOM METAL

A soli due anni dal loro pregevolissimo album di debutto Samsara, i The Well fanno il loro atteso ritorno seguendo la formula del "squadra che vince non si cambia": formazione stabile a tre (Graham, Alley, Sullivan), produzione RidingEasy Records e sonorità stoner/doom dal marcatissimo retrogusto blues. A scriverla così però si corre il rischio di insinuare il dubbio che la band sia rimasta fossilizzata sulla formula dell'esordio, senza cambiare di una virgola, commettendo così una grave ingiustizia verso una delle migliori nuove leve del circuito heavy psych.

THE WELL: pronto il nuovo LP

Solitamente aspettiamo maggiori dettagli prima di comunicare l'uscita di un album, ma per stavolta chissene, considerato quanto ci è piaciuto il loro debutto e con quanta ansia aspetteremo questo secondo capitolo.

Apprendiamo via The Obelisk che il 14 ottobre i The Well torneranno con Pagan Science, in uscita per i tipi di RidingEasy. E questo è quanto, per il momento. A presto per maggiori dettagli.

THE PLANET OF DOOM: Parte il kickstarter per il primo film d'animazione dedicato al Doom

Nella giornata di ieri è stata inaugurata la raccolta fondi tramite il sito kickstarter, per il progetto grafico "The Planet Of Doom"; Il primo lungometraggio completamente dedicato al mondo Heavy/Doom/Stoner/Sludge; nato per mano del collettivo artistico Riff Lodge Animation. La sceneggiatura è a cura dell'artista David Paul Seymour mentre l'animazione grafica è stata affidata a Tim Granda. 

"The Planet Of Doom" sarà suddiviso in 14 capitoli, interamente guidati da brani di band tra cui: Conan, Mos Generator, Wo Fat, Slow Season, Summoner, The Well e molti altri. Vi ricordiamo che il kickstarter sarà attivo dall'11 Aprile al 11 Maggio e servirà a sostenere le spese per poter dare vita a questo singolare film d'animazione che unisce la passione per l'arte grafica e le sonorità pesanti.

Ascoltare l'album di debutto degli statunitensi The Well ha la stessa valenza di accendere un incensiere carico di marijuana innalzando lodi a Lucifero.

Stiamo parlando di Stoner con la esse maiuscola, quello capace di prenderti alla pancia e di darti i brividi, qualità sempre più rara e utile per ricordarci la scintilla che ha fatto scattare in noi l'amore per questo genere.

Innegabilmente il trio di Austin si è forgiato ossa ed orecchie a suon di Electric Wizard e Sleep e, complice l'ottimo EP First Trip, che aveva ricevuto gli apprezzamenti di molti addetti del settore, ha finalmente la possibilità di sparare watt nei nostri stereo grazie a quei volponi della Riding Easy, ormai sempre più etichetta di riferimento per tutti gli appassionati.

BIO:

Austin-based power trio The Well redefine heavy rock by merging massive riffs with sophisticated melodies. Their progressive sound stems from a nostalgic desire to blend different musical styles as diversified as Joy Division to Blue Cheer. The group blossomed when guitarist/vocalist Ian Graham was fired from his previous band. Determined to redirect his musical focus, Graham hooked up with bassist Lisa Alley and the two began picking out riffs in their east-side garage. Rounding out their sound, they stole drummer Jason Sullivan from Graham’s old band in a tale of vengeance and karma. His solid groove and reckless tribal beat gave the three-piece their ideal primal attack.

Due to their psychedelic doom edge, The Well reap comparisons to Black Sabbath, Sleep, Electric Wizard and Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats. As fans of cult horror films, they embrace the sinister, revel in dark themes and find inspiration in haunting echoes. The dual vocals of Graham and Alley evoke an ancient language that carries a mystic spell. Daunting rhythms and heavy guitars often accentuate their chilling chants. In the spring of 2012 The Well’s first studio experience was to record their debut 7″ at the Barbeque Shack with Tia Carrera’s Jason Morales. Limited to 300 copies, ‘Seven’ was pressed on mixed vinyl with several cover options featuring hand-drawn art that emulated a few of the band’s favorite album covers. Nicknamed the “rip-off” series, the single sold out quickly becoming a favorite among European collectors.

By the fall of 2012, The Well were back in the studio again, this time at Ohm Recording Facility with Producer Mark Deutrom (Melvins, Sun O)))) and Engineer Chico Jones to record their debut album. However, an opportunity to record with Converse Rubber Tracks during SXSW 2013 resulted in the epic track “Eternal Well” and sparked the idea of an EP. ‘First Trip’ was pressed with a handful of songs from the Ohm sessions together with “Eternal Well” just in time for their West Coast Summer Tour. Due to the energy and excitement of their live shows, the disc sold out quickly. With each repressing, a different hand-screened cover was printed until all four limited editions sold out. One of their most rabid fans was Riding Easy Records label boss Daniel Hall who recently signed the band.

Inspired by early ‘70s psych and proto-metal, The Well have created a sound that reflects doom, punk and horror all rolled together in a ghostly rock soundtrack. Their full-length debut, ‘Samsara’, is their strongest collection of songs to date. Produced by Mark Deutrom and released through Riding Easy Records, the masterwork is a stripped down, electric blues fuzzfest and begs to be heard live. After a steady touring schedule that’s seen the band share the stage with international acts such as: Kadavar, Orchid, Fu Manchu, High On Fire, NAAM, Orange Goblin, Pentagram and Dead Meadow guarantees The Well are street-tough contenders. “Writing dark, ominous music is how I deal with life,” admits Ian. “When we play live it’s like expelling the demons.” At a time when rock music is fading among the masses, The Well inject an intoxicating dose of raw adrenaline into a fatigued genre. Their nostalgic reverence, simple structure and modern expression put them at the forefront of today’s heavy rock.
